Two Chrysler Group Vans Awarded IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2012

Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Franklin is excited that the Chrysler Town & Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan have recently been named as Top Safety Picks for 2012 by the IIHS.

Both of these minivans received the highest scores in rollover tests, and also received the highest marks, that being “Good”, in every aspect of the crash protection testing.

Chrysler Group values safety, with that being said both minivans feature more than forty standards, or available, safety options for potential buyers, talk about options! Some of the listed standard features are; front seat mounted airbags, 3-row side curtain air bags, driver-side knee blocker air bag and all-speed traction control.

The Town & Country and Grand Caravan also have ridiculous strength–to- weight ratio ratings coming in at 4.51, which is the highest among the minivan segment. Strength-to-weight ratio is the relationship between a material’s strength and its’ weight, so vehicles that use very light-weight/strong steel will have higher scores. The vans rating, 4.51, is above the IIHS requirement of 4.0, with the minimum requirement, which is 1.5.

2011 Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 added to 2011 IIHS Top Safety Pick Award list



Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Franklin announces the redesigned 2011 Dodge Charger and 2011 Chrysler 300 sedans have been added to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) list of the 2011 Top Safety Award picks – bringing the automaker to 7 vehicles on the list of 68 for 2011.

The 2011 IIHS Top Safety Pick awards were originally announced in 2010 and when that list was offered, there were 66 vehicles and 5 cars and SUVs from the Chrysler Group. The Dodge Avenger and its Chrysler cousin, the 200 sedan were included in the original list along with the new Dodge Journey and the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Patriot.

Unfortunately for the folks under the Pentastar, the debut of the 2011 Dodge Charger was not in time (it debuted about a month prior to the 2011 list being announced) and the 2011 Chrysler 300 did not make its formal debut until the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. However, now that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has been able to review these two new full-sized sedans, they have added the muscular 2011 Charger and the more-luxurious Chrysler 300 to the list of the safest vehicles available for the 2011 model year.

This is the first time that the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 have been recognized by the IIHS for being among the safest cars in the country – showing the strides made by the Chrysler Group as they move forward after the industry collapse of 2009. With 7 vehicles for 2011, the Chrysler Group now ranks 6th among other major automakers.
